Hash #526:   Feb 26, 2005 - "Buffalo Soldier" Carnival Hash & Taco Feed

This Hash was held in the upper Altamira area; hosted by Malena with Blanca & Cristina helping.  The Hashers were asked to wear costumes to commemorate Carnival & Marley's 60th Birthday.  After the hash we were treated to  scrumptious tacos and a decadent dessert; the food was better than in a restaurant!

Malena & Cristina added a few twists to the Hash, which made it very entertaining.
They added a "treasure hunt" and a history lesson to the Hash.  Read on for the details ...

The Welcoming Committee The garden area of the "First house in Altamira" was great!"

Inside the gate, new Hashers were shown the normal way to say "Welcome to Caracas" We didn't really know how many people would show up for this Hash, at is was held on the 4-day Carnival weekend.   Many people must have stayed in the local area, since we had quite a crew!

Yup, get that hash shirt to keep from doing a "Down-Down" It's tricky to get a picture of those who don't want theirs taken! OK, it looks like it getting time to get the group "Circled Up"

C'mon, make the circle bigger! Malena is introduced & says... ... time for a "Treasure Hunt"!

Cristina then distributed a list of items which we needed to collect during the hash.
The team which collects the most items by the end of the Hash would win a special prize.

Many people had never been on a Treasure Hunt before, so it was quite entertaining!

We started off in a big pack, but soon the groups began to spread out as they searched for items.  A few of the items were rather difficult and required some advanced planning to attain. Some people picked at the trees or searched along the road (or in garbage bags) for items.

The Hares placed normal  "decision circles" along some hash route intersections.  Usually the first people to a circle will
check the possible paths and determine the proper route...
which allows the slower Hashers a chance to catch up.

To add another level of entertainment... the Hares provided a multiple-choice question at each of the decision circles.  Each answer was assigned a certain direction. If you knew the answer, you could continue on the right way; if you guessed wrong, it could take a while to discover if you were going down a false trail.

Click here for a list of the questions, which consisted of historical items from the Altamira area... take the time to read them!

Distribution & analysis of the question at the "Nuns Corner".

At this point I stopped taking pictures of the Hash & concentrated on finding some more items.
This hash was long & included a beer stop at a local pub!  We pick up the story back at the house....

The "young at heart" stayed behind to make sure the beer was kept cold.

The first ones back reviewed their items; what, no light bulb?  A little acrobatics solved that!

As the groups filtered back, the socializing and "treasure hunt story telling" began.

OK, time to get the group ... ... circled for the "down-downs" Is this "Horny horse-play?"

Fredy, looking 20 years younger, introduced the Hosts & Hares. Take a drink gals, for setting up a very entertaining hash! OK, let's meet the "Virgins"; those new to Hashing!

There were another couple of reasons to drink.... but then... ... Malena announced the judging for the Treasure Hunt. The groups with the most items were asked to show their items.

Wow, this guy & his father did pretty good; each item was verified by the judges.

The review of the items was sometimes quite messy... as we had to pour everything out.

The Winners, with 26 items!

After the formal activities, the hashers settled down to more socializing before dinner.

When the dinner horn rang, we were served "stacked tacos", which were great.  Afterwards, there was a nice dessert for those who still had room in their stomachs.

The kitchen help ... they should seriously think about opening a restaurant!

Thanks to the Hosts & Hares for setting up this event!
